DeployStudio installed @ latest version on server AND on latest model machine in order to create NBI. In my test I created NBI on server as it's hardware is newer than the Mac Mini client I used to boot to it. Generally, not best practice though.
This will then start the download of a disk image file containing the installer.
    ip helper-address 172.16.10.100
    Running the automated installation
in get/entry?populate=YES, should cause the computer to inherit settings from any group marked as default.

Eventually we will go to JAMF, but still don't know what will replace DF.

I am working on a suite of iMacs that I am going to manage using Profile Manager in macOS Server on a 2010 Mac Pro. Does anyone have some guidance on the best practices and how I could go about taking an image of one iMac and putting it on the rest using DeployStudio? So far I have installed and setup DeployStudio on the Mac Pro. I have created a NetInstall image using the setup assistant and specified that image in the NetInstall section in the Server App. There is a green circle next to the image and it says it is available on Ethernet 1. The Mac Pro and iMacs are on the same wired network, however when I try to boot to the image to capture the iMac image I hold the option key at boot but only the iMac's Hard Drive is listed to boot from. I have found this guide and the steps the author has followed are pretty much the same as what I have done.
Click the Continue button to proceed past the Introduction screen (Figure B).
The reason I told DS to use a local file repository instead of a network share is because if I specified a network share, then that address is hardcoded into the on the NBI. I have multiple remote sites and would rather have just one NBI that I can shove out to the remote sites, I can then have a script that runs at boot thanks to launchd and mounts the correct file share repository based on IP address. We know that at each remote site we have a file server at x.x.x.20 so it is trivial to get our IP address strip off the last octet and replace it with 20 and then use that IP address to mount our network share into /Volumes/DS_Repo ready for DeployStudio to access.
In DS Admin, click on "Workflows" in the list on the left
Before uninstalling DeployStudio Server 1.7.1, you’d better quit this application and end all its processes. If DeployStudio Server 1.7.1 is frozen, you can press Cmd +Opt + Esc, select DeployStudio Server 1.7.1 in the pop-up windows and click Force Quit to quit this program (this shortcut for force quit works for the application that appears but not for its hidden processes).
